Prologue

The prologue of my book "The Clouds Rain Blood"

-How are you going to protect an entire city all by yourself when you don’t even notice when someone points a dagger to your throat?

Two piecing green eyes looked to mine.

-You aren’t holding a dagger.

-No, but I could be.

-Unless I’m recalling wrong, I ordered you to stay at the court Tempest – Why couldn’t she, for once, follow orders?

-And miss all the fun? It’s not every day that my best-friend decides to die – The most attractive lips from the empire curved into an ironic smile.

-This is exactly why I left without telling anyone. – I got up from the bed where I laid earlier, hoping for a rest before the battle that soon would start.

-So that you could die like a bloody martyr on the middle of nowhere? Defending a city? – Anger turned the cold eyes into a fire.

-It’s that what you came for? To deliver me a speech? Consider it done. Go back.

The wind opened the curtain and revealed a giant battle ax, higher than the woman holding it.

-We are here to help – she smiled and lust light her eyes.

The sun raised, indifferent to the thousands of men and women that soon will die under it.

I look at my companions.

Monsters.

That’s what people call us.

Trained since childhood in camps later burned by ourselves, shaped and forged into murder machines, unable of human feelings, carrying an eternal blood thirst.

We stand here today, on this battlefield.

Not to destroy. But to protect.

10 against 35000.

I smile as I pull my swords out. I don’t need to look to them to know that they are smiling too.

The call to kill sings in my ears. That is what I was made for. This is for what I breathe.

The city behinds us still sleeps, unaware of the horrors that soon we will unleash at the gates.

For all that we were taught, we are going now to show.

I raise my hand and the battle begins.
